About The Paintings
I always have work on display in my home Studio. Call 609-653-4383 for an appointment. A selection of my postcard paintings are now available at the Noyes Museum of Art Gift Shop. For the time being I have removed the gallery of archived still life paintings. I will put the images back up sometime in the spring of 2010. For many years I painted almost exclusivley still lifes. I developed my own personal style in this genre with the series called "Scatter Paintings." In the fall of 2007 my interest turned outward to include landscape. That change in subject matter was partially the result of my involvement with the daily painting movement: an internet phenomenon of artists who post "daily" small completed paintings on their blogs. While I do not make a new painting every single day I have managed to produce a regular output of several per week over the last three years. You can view these ongoing works at my blog: www.chucklaw.blogspot.com. Painting daily has changed the way I work with oils and the way I see the world around me. The excitement of working outdoors captured my heart and I do so whenever I can. I paint mostly from life, but not exclusively. There are occcasions when a photo reference can help, particularly with larger studio pieces. That said, I do paint outdoor as often as I can. I love how the tactile quality of oils provide an immediate transference of my emotional state at the time of creating the work. When confronted with the beauty and mystery of nature I often experience humilty and exhileration simultaneously. While I am out there painting I am keenly aware of being part of God's universe. Life as an artist is a fantastic experience for me and opens doors of communication I never dreamed possible. |
